Michelle LeeElection Night SpeechDelivered in Carlton, MNJanuary 22, 2019
Thank you so much for being here tonight to share in this election night celebration.
As was the case with last year’s campaign, I have so many people to thank who have done everything possible to move heaven and earth to get to tonight.
I can tell you, but you may never know the full extent of my gratitude, and how you honored me with your intelligence, your vision and your dedication.
Our message was one of inclusion, a true people’s campaign. In just a few short weeks we came together to launch a campaign that would make any candidate proud.
Our volunteers placed thousands of phone calls, sent out hundreds of text messages, mailed hundreds of post cards, generated the funds to pay for hundreds of radio ads, and managed a social media effort that was second to none.
Along the way we picked up the endorsement of individuals who I have known and admired for years for their dedication to public service and human dignity.
All of this done without any tension or strife…just roll up your sleeves and get-to-work determination leading us to our party’s endorsement this past weekend. We did that. Together.
I want to thank the Lourey family for their years of dedication to the people of this region. You did so much to make the lives of people better and we know your family will do all it can to continue its rich legacy of public service.
Finally, let me thank the voters of this district who went to the polls for me last fall and again today. I never expected to be in a position where I would have to ask for someone’s vote. But, when I retired from television, I knew I couldn’t sit idly by and watch what was happening to our country without doing something about it.
We just passed the two-year anniversary of the Women’s March in cities around the world. I was in Washington and came back to Minnesota with a fire inside me. So did millions of other women and this past Fall we saw walls come tumbling down as a blue wave swept across this country.
Already, we have seen three women announce their candidacy for President – and there will be more.
So to the voters of District 11, thank you for supporting me in my efforts to make our lives better. I promise, you haven’t heard the last from Michelle Lee.
I’ll continue to speak out on the issues that impact each and every one of us. And, we’ll move forward together to an even better Minnesota and a more united country. Please join me February 5th by casting your ballot for Stu Lourey. We must work together to ensure Senate District 11 sends a DFL’er to St. Paul. Thank You.
