Concerned residents living near a closed landfill monitored by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency recently brought attention to serious damages caused by off road vehicles. In short order the Carlton County Land Commissioner, Greg Bernu visited the site and began taking steps to fence the area and set out signs diverting off road vehicles. New 15 MPH speed limit signs were also posted along the Soo Trail leading into Moose Lake. When ATV Clubs learned of the damage members volunteered to help Commissioner Bernu and local families plant one thousand pines at the foot of the landfill on Saturday morning, May second. My husband and I will be out helping to plant trees and I will keep you updated on further steps to protect our sleeping giant. In case you missed it, here's my original report.
