What do you get when you combine a highly spirited game of tug-o-war, traditional games, language and the arts---and great conversation with old friends? A perfect day to visit the Kiwenz Ojibwe Language Camp in Sawyer! As a relatively new beader, I was thrilled to chat with Dennis R. White. His vest took three years to complete using the two needle technique. The flowers are a celebration of local flora. Dennis was also instructing people on the art of finger weaving. I reconnected with Arianna Northbird and Larry Spears who were offering beading classes at the camp. Larry was a beading student a few years back and today he is an instructor. It was fun to talk and catch up with Pam, Dr. Arne, Deb, Pat and many other members of the Northrup clan. Pat and the late, Jim Northrup were founders of the language camp which continues to grow and pass down native language and the arts. Thank you for welcoming me and sharing your thoughts and concerns.
