Old Timers Banquet IN Carlton, MN
August 31, 2019 An estimated 200 people turned out to enjoy a tasty Labor Day Weekend lunch today prepared by B & B Market at the Four Season Event Center and Sport Complex in Carlton, Minnesota. The Old Timers Banquet is an annual event that has grown in popularity with senior citizens and is sponsored by local union membership. Among those attending was union member and MN State Representative, Mike Sundin, who is being honored as this year's grand marshall of the 100th Labor Day Parade in Cloquet on Monday. In addition to saluting his union brothers and sister and the senior citizens in attendance at today's banquet Representative Sundin discussed his proposed legislation to reduce the county taxpayer burden involving rebates for the overpayment of taxes by various utilities in recent years. It is hoped that the state of Minnesota will step up to help affected rural counties with funds to reduce that heavy burden. This year's Labor Day buttons were a big hit with banquet participants. The button reads, "Blood, Sweat, & Tears, another 100 years." I had the opportunity to say a few words regarding the the past contribution of unions, along with the efforts of working men and women who built our communities in Carlton County. As we look to the next 100 years and future generations of workers I'm confident we will build upon the many workers rights we enjoy today. I hope to see you Monday, Sept., 1, 2019 as we step out to march in the 100th Labor Day Parade in Cloquet. From the parade, to a car show, and picnic at the Labor Temple...there's a big day of fun filled activities yet to come.
