Conor Lamb's victory in yesterday's special election in Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district is further proof of a major shift taking place in America's political landscape. After years of straying Republican, voters are starting to return to their Democratic roots. Last night in Pennsylvania's 18th was just the latest example. It has special meaning here in the 8th District where many traditional Democratic areas have turned Republican since the turn of this Century.
President Trump won the 18th by 20 percentage points. His margin of victory in some parts of the 8th was even larger. Together we can reclaim these portions of our district by offering common sense solutions to the problems we face. To do so, we need to change how we do business.
We need to start working together rather than devising new strategies that do little more than divide us. Our current leadership on both sides of the aisle has given us more gridlock and dysfunctional government with fewer and fewer things getting done. This must stop.
I pledge to work for the common good for everyone in the 8th District without regard for political affiliation. We all live here together. We chose this region to begin our lives together, to raise our families, and even to retire. I promise you I'll never let partisan politics come between us.
We can move forward together, focused on our future. I hope you'll join me in this campaign for a better and even stronger America.
